My new timewaster!
Texas Hold'em
Thanks to
taynar I have joined the ranks of online poker players. In my case it's at Full Tilt Poker
I've always sucked at most forms of poker. Never could keep any
of what beat what straight. This past year or two, however, I've
had a bit of a passing interest in Texas Hold'em thanks to Bravo Channel's Celebrity Poker Showdown. Very entertaining to watch these guys.
Phil Gordon, the color commentary guy, is someone even
coat_of_arms would look up to (Phil is 6'9"). Kinda sad to see how Dave Foley
has let himself go, tho.
At any rate, on the 'fake money' side of Full Tilt: They start
you out with $1000 in chips. You can reload every 5
minutes. 3 hours later,
I'd only reloaded once. Had a blast, met a couple of cool
people. Lots of assholes, but a few cool ones.
This one guy said I wasn't too bad
and when he found out it was my first night there he encouraged me to
enter in the freeroll tourney that was starting in the next hour.
A 'freeroll' tourney is free to enter. Real cash prizes for the
top 3. I was in a $20 freeroll for 900 people max: 1st got $10,
2nd got $6, 3rd got $4...or something
like that. You get $1500 in chips. They started the blind
at 15/30 and would raise it every 10 minutes. By the time I
got knocked out it was
up to something like 400/800 - with a $125 ante. Starts to
hurt at that point. I lasted FAR longer than I thought I
would. Was even at
several tables with 1 or 2 top ten players at a time. After the
first hour or two I was in the top 100. I stayed in the top 70
for awhile...and
eventually peaked in the top 35. I finished 34th out of
900. Not bad for my first time out. Learned a LOT about the
game last night
and had a blast to boot.
Now I have a delimma.... World of Warcraft or Texas Hold'Em. Man... decisions decisions.....
