21st-Dec-2009 03:46 pm - Merry Christmas, damnit!
guitar
There's been a lot of BS going around lately about being PC during this time of year and you shouldn't say "Merry Christmas", and ppl of other religions getting all kurfluffled over it, etc. I thought I'd just drop my 2c on the matter.

Hey, Christians: Jesus wasn't actually born on Dec 25th. "Mother Church" decided in 440AD that he was born then mainly to subvert the traditional pagan feast that happens on that date.

I will say tho that there really shouldn't be anything -wrong- with saying Merry Christmas any more than it should be wrong to say "Happy Chanukah" and people who are of other religions/faiths and are being militant/whiny about "Christmas" should really STFU. Every religion has their own sacred holiday. Celebrate it and be proud of it and stop sounding like jackasses demanding that Christmas be eliminated. Otherwise, your sacred holidays will be the next to go.

Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, kiss my ass, kiss your ass, kiss his ass, Happy Chanukah. Just be nice to each other, follow Wheaton's First Law: "Don't be a dick", and don't just do it during this time of year, do it all year long!

Happy Year Round! :)

P.S.: I consider myself to be a spiritual person (not religious) and this is one of the many things that really grinds my gears about organized religions. This whole 'my god/belief/ritual is better than yours' crap is just bogus. Almost every (positive) religion basically says the same things. It's all the dogma and cult/clique parts that get people in to so much idiocy about it. The human race needs to get some collective perspective: We're indescribably tiny motes on a microscopic bit of dust from the grand universe's perspective. It's, quite literally, too small of a world for us to be so pissy with each other. What things could we do if Homo Erectus spent the time and resources put into pissing matches with each other into things that would be more benefical to us as a whole?

(Hey, who said postscripts had to be SHORT?!)

So, I get an email from the parent company of japanesepod101.com, a site where you can learn Japanese. They have branched out into other languages, spanish, etc. Today they sent me a 'special offer' on englishclass101.com

Here's the part that got my attention:

If you've ever been interested in learning English this is your one chance to become a "Founding Father" Member of EnglishClass101.com for an unbelievable low monthly fee of only $5 (normally $25) for Premium Membership, an 80% discount!

Mind you, the entire email is written in ENGLISH!!!

I hit Reply and typed:

If I couldn't read english, I wouldn't be able to READ this offer you sent me. You -do- realize the irony of that, do you not?

Seems kind of counterproductive to ask someone -in- english if they're interested in learning english. *shakes his head*

I don't think you could pay me enough to be a 911 dispatcher.

Had to go to the 911 center to fix some things tonite. While I was there, one call among many stood out. An < 10 yr old child called 911 to report their mother was attempting suicide in front of them and their even younger sibling. Bless their heart they answered all the dispatcher's questions and gave good information even up until the officer got onscene and the dispatcher instructed the child to put the phone down and go downstairs to let the officer in so he could help. I overheard another dispatcher ask the one who took the call, "You got all that in the notes from the kid?" -"Yeah." "Smart kid..." Needless to say, the dispatcher who took the call took a break afterwards. Can't say I blame them.

Sometimes we forget the kinds of things the people in our local public safety system have to handle in the interest of keeping the rest of us safe. I salute you all and am glad you do the jobs you do, cuz I sure couldn't.

Pooh
You Are a Hunter Soul
You are driven and ambitious - totally self motivated to succeed.
Actively working to achieve what you want, you are skillful in many areas.
You are a natural predator with strong instincts ... and more than a little demanding.
You are creative, energetic, and an extremely powerful force.

An outdoors person, you like animals and relate to them better than people.
You tend to have an explosive personality, but you also have a good sense of humor.
People sometimes see you as arrogant or a know it all.
You tend to be a bit of a loner, though you hate to be alone.

Souls you are most compatible with: Seeker Soul and Peacemaker Soul

So, I've heard Obamaramalamadingdong say, "....by the end of my -first- term."

Is he -really- so foolish as to already assume he's going to get re-elected or is it some subtle speechwriting that is intended to subconciously plant the seeds for his re-election?

Either way seems kinda ballsy to me.

So, if you're ever in the St. Louis area (or other locations for this place) you'd do yourself a great favor to stop by The Kolache Factory

http://www.kolachefactory.com/faqs/

They're basically stuffed buns. Japanese cuisine features something like this, I believe. S'good stuff, Maynard.

I'm particularly partial to the pepperoni and mushroom ones. They have bbq beef, buffalo chicken, sausage, etc..... about 25 different ones.

*enjoys some for lunch*
